The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has kicked-off NIN Mobile Enrolment in FCT with pilot enrolment exercise targeted at major markets, shopping plazas, villages, Settlements and satellite towns.
The Director General of NIMC, Bar. Chris Onyemenam stated during the kick starting of the mobile enrolment, that the NIMC will stop at nothing in ensuring that it captures all eligible Nigerians and Legal residents wherever they live and resides in Nigeria. He added that locations would not be a barrier as NIMC would provide enough Mobile Enrollment Vans to go into villages, markets, shopping plazas and satellite towns/ hinter lands, where NIMC cannot readily set-up permanent NIN enrolment centers.
Barrister Onyemenam remarked that apart from Mobile NIN enrollment Van that is capable of moving on rough roads, similar arrangement are being made to provide ways and means by which those in the creeks , river-side and camps can also be enrolled . It can be recalled that just a month ago, NIMC took delivery of four mobile enrolment Vans from a US manufacturing company, all in the effort to ensure quick and effective enrolment exercise for Nigerians living both in Urban and rural areas.
The Director General also informed that upon arrival of the vans, the NIMC’s in-house Technical Service Staff installed the enrolment systems and other parameters in the Mobile Van which have commenced enrolment. He explained that each of the van has two major compartments, the waiting room area which can accommodate three persons at a time and the enrollment room which has four set of systems. The enrolment van is fully air conditioned to provide comfort for the enrollees. He stated that each of the system is manned by well trained NIMC staff who collects the form filled by the applicant and inputs it in the system, while the applicant watches using the monitor facing him or her.
The Mobile Enrolment Van presently is at the Wuse Market and people have started trooping out to get enrolled for their NIN.
On the issue of card personalization, Bar Onyemenam pointed out that the NIMC have received the Data Card personalization Machines and is currently undergoing some test runs in preparation to its flag –off, and then the cards will be issued to Nigerians that have registered so far. He appreciates the fact that Nigerians are very busy people and this informed the decisions of management to bring the enrolment centers to public places so that Nigerians can utilize the opportunity and enroll for their National Identity Number (NIN).
The Director-General reiterated that the system is capable of dictating double registration and anybody who attempt to do so will be caught and punished as provided by the law.
