NIMC Kano Launches Enrolment In Almajiri Schools
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Kano state has launched the enrolment of all Almajirai in Kano State into the National Identity Database (NIDB).
This is in line with fulfilling the NIMC mandate of enroling all Nigerians and legal residents into the National Identity Database (NIDB) and issue them the National Identification Number (NIN).
The ceremony to mark the grand opening of the Almajirai Islamic school NIN enrolment, held in Makarantar Hizburrahim Ta Sheikh Usman Balla (Mallam Babba), and was attended by the NIMC Kano State Coordinator Engr. Sanusi Muhammad alongside other State management team members.
The school is located in Gwale Local Government Area in the heart of Kano State with a population of three thousand four hundred and seventy (3,470) students and sixty-one (61) teachers.
“Since the sixty (60) days Emergency NIN Enrolment was declared by the Kano State Government, the residents of Kano State have shown more cooperation towards enrolling for the NIN”, he said.
According to him, the collaborative efforts of the NIMC Kano with the State Government, has brought about a remarkable increase in the enrolment of Kano residents particularly minors (children) under the age of fifteen (15).
He added that the Almajirai enrolment which is the first of its kind, will help identify residents of the state, curb criminal activities and stop trafficking in the state.
He further called on the State Government of other Northern States to adopt the Almajirai NIN enrolment as most of the Almajirai are children under the ages of 15.
“As part of the mandatory requirements for the enrolment of minors (0-15 years), either the parent or guardian must have a NIN, along with the child/ward’s birth certificate. The Headmaster stood as guarantor for some of the Almajirai after they had obtained the letter from the Ward head before they were enrolled.
In his closing remarks, the NIMC Kano State Coordinator acknowledged the unwavering support of the State Government to the NIMC state and local government offices.
“This Almajirai NIN enrolment will continue to spread across the entire state alongside the enrolment of minors which is currently ongoing at all enrollment centers across the 36 states and the F.C.T.”
He therefore called on all Nigerians and Legal residents to endeavor to register their children and wards.”
