The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is collaborating with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), and the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to sensitize residents of the FCT on the National Identification Number (NIN) and its benefits.

The collaborative efforts is a continuation of the efforts by the Commission to further enlighten the general public especially the grassroots on the importance and use of the NIN.
The project which will see the team visit all six Area Councils in the FCT known as Kwali, Kuje, Abaji, Bwari, Abuja Municipal and Gwagwalada, kick started from Abaji, with a visit to Robochi and Gwarwada villages within the Area Councils.

The Director of Chieftaincy and Community Development, FCTA, Alh. Jibril Shaba while delivering his opening remarks, introduced the NIMC and NOA team and the reason for the visit.
He further enjoined everyone present to listen to the brief presentation made by the Principal Manager of Corporate Communication, Mrs. Jamila Ahmad who explained the benefits of the NIN, its uses and enrolment process.
Some of the benefits of the NIN according to Mrs Ahmad include; provision of a platform where no one is socially or financially excluded; transform the delivery of social welfare programs (eg the vulnerables), eliminate duplicate/ghost identities, reduce cost to government as resources and infrastructures will be shared, amongst others.

Mrs. Ahmad also explained that the enrolment center in Abaji is located at the Area Council and is opened to everyone to register so as to get their NINs.

This was followed by questions asked by some of the chiefs who requested to know how long it will take for the NIN slip to be issued to them and how minors can be enrolled.

The NIMC team concluded by calling on the residents of Abaji, through the Ona of Abaji, HRH, Alhaji Dr. Adamu Baba Yunusa, HRH, Alhaji Mohammed Pada (ETSU) Sa’Rubochiyi and the Agabe of Ugbada, Gwarwada to indulge their people to come out en-masse for enrolment and get their NINs so as to enjoy its attendant benefits as enumerated above.

The High chiefs expressed appreciation on the efforts of the team to reach out to people in the grassroots, and agreed to work with the Commission through its local heads to share information and mobilize residents of the Area Councils for enrolment.

“We are all Nigerians and sensitization projects like this, is what gives us a sense of belonging. Our communities will work with the NIMC, FCTA and NOA, for the progressive improvement of on-going registration and will readily assist the NIMC whichever way we can to ensure that the exercise to go on smoothly.” The chiefs said.
