Update and modification of names are available for applicants (particularly ladies) who got married or divorced after they enrolled into the National Identity Database (NIDB) and issued the National Identification Number (NIN),

The service which is also available to applicants who erroneously supplied wrong names, changed names (in the case of a man as a result of religious conviction or family decision) or wish to update any of their addresses/telephone numbers can be obtained from any of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), enrolment Centres nationwide.

To obtain this service, applicants are required to visit any of the Commissions’ Enrolment Centre to make enquiries or indicate the type of data he/she desires to modify or update and why.
A designated officer will ask relevant questions on the update to be made and give the applicant a list of the requisite relevant documents to be supplied for this purpose.

They may include applicants NIN, marriage certificate, divorce papers, birth certificate, court affidavit, Newspaper publication, etc.

The applicant will also have to pay a service charge of N500.00 or multiple of N500. 00 depending on the number of changes, which should be paid via the Remita Platform.

Upon payment and confirmation of appropriate fees via the RRR (Remita Retrieval Reference) the applicant is given an enrolment and modification form to fill.

Thereafter, the applicant’s data (demographics and biometrics) is captured and the NIN slip is reissued with the modified data after the completed form is verified by the enrolment Centre Supervisor.

Modification to some of the applicant’s data, such as the date of birth, Country or State of birth, Sex are termed “non-updatable fields” as the process is very rigorous and not advised thus applicants are urged to be very careful and pay attention to the mirror system during enrolment.
