ICICE Assures NIMC of Support on NIN Enrolment

The International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education (ICICE) has reiterated its support to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) by extending its facilities and resources to assist in the achievement of NIMC’s mandate, to ensure that all Nigerian citizens and Legal Residents are enrolled into the National Identity Database and issued the unique National Identification Number (NIN) upon successful enrolment.

This call was made during a courtesy visit by the Director General ICICE, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman to the Director General/CEO NIMC, Engineer Aliyu Aziz at the headquarters of the National Identity Management Commission in Abuja.

In his address, Dr. Kabir Kabo Usman commended NIMC on its successes despite the challenges it currently faces, He also identified NIMC as a critical Stakeholder to the Nation achieving its developmental goals. Hence the reason for reaching out to collaborate with the Commission is to leverage on its facility and existing platforms.

The ICICE does not only focuses on Islamic activities but also caters to all religions with its inter-faith dialogue and trainings. Amongst other activities, it also introduces art and craft skills development to the less privileged youth and engages in poverty eradication programs in Communities through its outreach programmes.

While speaking on the Importance of the National Identity Database to the development and security of Nigeria, Dr. Kabir said.“We cannot plan without the National Identity Database it is also paramount to National security, all Agencies need data therefore there is need for us to key in and give support to NIMC as part of our quota to Nation building. We call on all Civil Society and Religious groups to support and collaborate with NIMC to ensure that every Nigerian and Legal resident is enrolled and issued a unique identification”.

In his response, the DG/CEO NIMC Engr. Aliyu Aziz expressed gratitude to the leadership of the ICICE for acknowledging the importance of NIMC to the Nation. He also assured his guest of the Commission’s willingness to leverage on the opportunities extended to the Commission by the Centre to enroll a vast section of Nigerians and Legal residents.

The DG/CEO NIMC reassured the delegation of the Commissions commitment to providing assured identity to Nigerians and Legal residents and called on other Organizations to support NIMC in achieving its mandate. He advised the general public to obtain their NIN as the mandatory use of the NIN has commenced. The Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigerian Immigration Services, Pension Commission, Joint Administration and Matriculation Board, Federal Road Safety Corps amongst others have made NIN mandatory for accessing their services.
