German Deputy Ambassador Applauds NIMS Project

The German Embassy during a familiarisation tour of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), commended the Commission on its mandate to create a unified identification system for the country, and on the progress so far made in the setting up the National Identity Management System (NIMS). The Embassy through its Deputy Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Regina Hess, who was received by the Director General/CEO, NIMC, said the system will aid the diplomatic community determine the eligibility of candidates seeking for work permit, school, visas etc.

Regina Hess also noted: “Although it will take some time, the National e-ID Card which has a lot of applets will create access to state services, financial support to citizens, as well as add so many other values to the lives of Nigerians. “We want to discuss the planning, timelines, how we can make this project faster. We are also trying to create awareness about the card through trainings, even the police should know about the card, we are at the beginning stage of the awareness though.”
In his remarks, the Director General, Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engineer Aliyu Abubakar Aziz, while briefing the delegates from the German embassy on NIMC activities and the progress made so far by the Commission, thanked the German government for their interest in building a reliable identity management system in Nigeria.
He said “The Commission is saddled with the responsibility of creating first of all the national Identity database and we do this by enrolling citizens and legal residents into the data base.”
